Home Energy Systems

Reducing utility bills dramatically and cost effectively almost always requires taking an integrated systems approach. In most situations there are dozens of potentially viable solutions. And for each viable solution there are often dozens (and sometimes hundreds) of alternative components.

At Big Green Zero we continuously research new and more cost-effective technologies and components. Then, we integrate them to assure that we are installing the best of the best.

The following eight examples illustrate how we integrate a variety of technologies to optimize energy saving impacts. These eight examples are just a few among the many technologies that we are continuously researching, incorporating into integrated renewable energy systems . . . and installing.

1. The Big Green Zero Thermal Infrared Inspection

Many opportunities to dramatically reduce energy expense
are hidden out of view (inside walls, floors, attics and other
overhead spaces and inside of electrical, mechanical, gas
and plumbing systems. As a result, we generally recommend
doing a Big Green Zero Thermal Infrared Inspection
before making any renewable energy investment.

This inspection frequently identifies a number of relatively
inexpensive energy saving opportunities that can be taken
advantage of before making substantial investments (such as
putting expensive solar panels up on the roof).

2. Big Green Zero Elastomeric Wall Coatings

In terms of energy savings, the most important thing about
Big Green Zero Elastomeric Wall Coatings is that they
can "fool" a sun baked exterior wall into thinking it is 30 degrees
cooler.

From a health perspective, Big Green Zero Elastomeric Wall
Coatings contain no volatile organic compounds (VOC's) that
will vaporize to subsequently be breathed by building
inhabitants.

3. Big Green Zero Heat Barriers    and
   Big Green Zero Roof Coatings

Big Green Zero Heat Barriers are installed in attics and
other overhead spaces. They reduce summer heat gain and
winter heat loss, thereby delivering considerable heating and
cooling cost reductions.

Big Green Zero Roof Coatings reduce rooftop "island
heat" effect. We frequently specify them under and around
rooftop solar photovoltaic panel and other equipment installations
to reduce the heat gain transmitted into a building by as much
as 30%.

Big Green Zero Heat Barriers and Roof Coatings are
permanent systems that require little maintenance.

4. Big Green Zero LED Lighting

In buildings that burn large numbers of lights during
extended operating hours, energy consumed by
lighting can exceed 40% of the total energy bill. In
those situations, converting to LED lighting can
produce substantial cost savings. Occupancy
sensors can produce additional savings as well.

5. Big Green Zero Lighting Controls

By running lighting at lower wattage, controlling spikes
and regulating line voltage, a lighting control system
prolongs the life of lamps and ballasts up to 40%.

Of greater importance, lighting controls working in
conjunction with other energy savings devices can
reduce lighting bills by as much as 50%.

6. Big Green Zero Solar Air Conditioning

Because air conditioning is a big component of almost every
Southwestern U.S. utility bill, Big Green Zero provides ultra
high efficiency solar air cooling units that:

  • Use only 10% to 30% of the energy required
  by comparable conventional air conditioning
  systems.

  • Provide a continuous supply of fresh, filtered
outside air to dramatically improve indoor
air quality while removing dust, pollen and
  allergens.

  • Are virtually silent while running.

7. Big Green Zero Solar Thermal Water Heating

In homes and commercial buildings, heating water can be
substantial expense. In many buildings, 80% or more of that
expense can be eliminated by installing Big Green Zero Solar
Thermal Water Heating.

Rising energy prices have forced many resorts, homeowners
and home owner associations to leave luxurious swimming
pools and spas unheated. A Big Green Zero Solar Thermal
Water Heating system can reduce or eliminate those costs for
year-round swimming pool and spa enjoyment.

8. Big Green Zero Solar PV Panels

Considering the advanced technology incorporated in today's
solar panels and inverters, recent reductions in pricing and
the financial incentives available, there has never been a
better time to install solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.

Big Green Zero Solar PV Panels are both cost effective and affordable when installed
as an integrated component of a Big Green Zero renewable energy system.
